FUNNY FACT No 1

Even though Pleo was discovered in the wilds of California, USA – it’s surprising to learn that 60% of Pleo sales take place in Europe – with only 10% of Pleo’s being purchased in USA. It’s hard to imagine why this should be the case, as the vast majority of information about Pleo seems to come US sites, Perhaps the US Pleo community is more vocal than us timid Europeans? Can you explain Europe’s, and specifically the UKs love affair with Pleo?

Actual Fact No 1

Thanks to the Professional Vegan for contacting Pleo manufacturers Ugobe and confirming that, yes, the Pleo is vegan. OK – we all know that the Pleo can only eat the leaf pack supplied in the box (and little kids fingers, hee hee!), but Ugobe have confirmed that no animal products have been used in the making of the Pleo skin, but they cannot confirm that other parts (e.g. the glue used in the Pleo internal parts).As a fellow vegan, it makes me happy that Ugobe have taken the time to respond so quickly to this question.

ABOUT PLEO (basic)

The Pleo is a robotic toy dinosaur from Ugobe. Launched in late 2007, it has become one of the most sought after high-end toys on the market. Unlike previous robot toy efforts such as Sony’s Aibo dog, the Ugoble Pleo tries to distance itself from being labelled as a robot, and features the welcoming curves and material of a traditional soft toy. The Pleo is marketed as a baby dinosaur that actually “learns” from its environment. Advanced sensors inside the Pleo allow it to detect primitive objects and shapes and react to noises. It is also receptive to touch and surface detection. As well as being great for kids, the Pleo is quickly becoming one of the leading hobbyist robots, with Ugobe encouraging modifications to the base software that controls the robot via the graphical based MySkit application. Ugobe also has plans to introduce an API that will allow advanced control over the behaviour of the Pleo.

ABOUT ME…..

I have fallen in love all over again, maybe I can start a pleo fund, or just start scrimping and saving on a few things, putting money away, trying to sell a few unwanted bits on ebay when I am alive enough to get my head around putting things on ebay, (sometimes an assistant would so come in handy). I have noticed they have come down in price a lot, maybe as I think pleo Version 2 is out or coming out very soon, I just yearn for the first pleo nor do I want the fancy kits that mean you can change him, I want the honest baby pleo and I want to cuddle him, nutire him, let him grow, but more importantly turn him of when I go to hospital, or even better sneak him in with me! Now he seems to be down to a little too at £169 on amazon UK, yes yes people I know you think this is crazy price to spend on this, but well take a few things into account, this is me a robotic loving, dinosaur crazy, sick and often lonely person, that longs for a house cat, or dog, or hamster or something but there is no way I can do that for many reasons, so really I think pleo is the friend/pet for me… Doing a little looking about, before I try and go to sleep for a bit longer, everything hurts and this up and down night has not helped I am sure, but I just looked on amazon US and pleo is $185 that makes it cheaper than the UK but maybe I should see his shipping costs might end up being the same price…. hmmm

Ok going to go try and sleep and force pleo into my dream, rather than the night terror’s that have been keeping me awake…

Also please tell me what you think about this, I really am thinking about saving and buying myself one as a gift to me, its maybe about time I spent some money on me rather than on medical stuff and bills and just rubbish urgh your sick stuff… But also be honest and tell me if you think this is a silly love affair I I should not save and spend money of this cute little robo dino friend…. Tugging at your heart strings at the end there.
